Cheryl, I really enjoyed watching your clips of your classroom and the different methods you use. It looks like a fun place to be and learn!

What program did you use to make your video?

Hi! I came across your site and am very impressed. As I read about the activities and time you have spent adjusting to common core, what advice can you give to a large district that is in the process of helping their teachers understand common core standards? I am an instructional coach and we are in the process of 'unwrapping the standards', then create formative and common assessments. Teachers are getting frustrated with the unwrapping process. Do you believe that every teacher needs to experience this in order to value the standards and understand what they measure?

Thanks for your comment. I think it's good for every teacher to learn how to unwrap the standards, but I don't think it's necessary for them to do all the unwrapping. Could you get substitutes for some of your teacher leaders? Then, they could do the work and share with others. The same goes for formative and summative assessments. :)

Hi Cheryl,
My name is Corey Blackburn. I was just at the conference you spoke at in St. Louis. I just wanted to say that I implemented the making 10s card with my first and second graders. They love it and they picked it up so easily. Thank you so much for the idea. :D

Hi Cheryl,
My name is Corey Blackburn and I just recently attended the SDE Conference in St. Louis. I just wanted to say that I implemented the making 10s card game with my first and second graders this week and they absolutely love it. Thank you so much for the awesome idea.

Hi Cheryl,

I just attended the SDE conference in Long Beach, CA. I can't wait to try the Making Tens game with my 4th graders. I would love to share with my primary colleagues. I can't remember how you said to modify it for 1st and 2nd graders...take out all face cards? Thanks again.

Thanks, Kristen!

You can remove the face cards and the tens, and the trick will still work.

Good luck!

Hi Cheryl,

I saw you in Rutherford County, TN and wanted to know if you would share the website of the video creation software that your students used.
