What Looks Right? Dictionary Race

Directions:

Students create T-Chart with sweet and eat written at the top. After looking at the first set of words, they 'commit' to the word they THINK is spelled correctly and write THAT word on their paper. Students DO NOT write down the word they think is spelled incorrectly. After 'committing' to a word on paper, students try to locate the word as quickly as possible in the dictionary.

Once students locate the word, they stand up and wait. After about half of the class is standing, have students help others around them locate the word. Call on several students to tell you how to spell the word, the definition of the word, the guide words on the page and/or have students use the word correctly in a sentence.

Repeat until finished with the lesson.
